Job Summary

Nevsun Resources is seeking an experienced Senior Underground Geologist to provide technical leadership in underground geological mapping, orebody modelling, grade control, resource estimation, and mine planning support. The role is critical in ensuring accurate geological interpretation, maximizing ore recovery, reducing mining dilution, and supporting long-term underground production targets.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Geological Mapping & Resource Definition

  • Conduct detailed underground geological mapping.
  • Interpret orebody geometry and structural controls.
  • Develop geological models to support mining operations.
  • Identify mineralization trends and expansion opportunities.
  • Supervise underground sampling programs.

Grade Control Management

  • Manage grade control activities.
  • Monitor ore boundaries and dilution control.
  • Review assay results and geological databases.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Resource Estimation & Mine Planning

  • Prepare resource and reserve estimation inputs.
  • Support short-term and long-term mine planning.
  • Work closely with mining engineers and survey teams.
  • Provide geological forecasts for production scheduling.
  • Assist in feasibility and expansion studies.

Technical Leadership

  • Mentor junior geologists and graduate trainees.
  • Develop geological procedures and reporting standards.
  • Conduct technical reviews of exploration and mining data.
  • Coordinate geological risk assessments.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with mining regulations.
  • Support environmental and safety management systems.
  • Participate in underground safety inspections.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Mining Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Economic Geology or Mining Geology preferred.
  • Professional registration with a recognized geological body is advantageous.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of underground mining geology experience.
  • Experience in gold, copper, zinc, or polymetallic deposits.
  • Proven expertise in resource modelling and reserve estimation.
  • Experience managing geological teams.
  • Familiarity with JORC, NI 43-101, or similar reporting standards.
