This is a hands‑on leadership role in a fast‑tracked development, suited to someone who can work effectively under pressure and brings strong experience in schedule‑driven, complex mining and process plant projects.
About The Role
Based at Kerkebet Mine, you will provide oversight of electrical power generation and distribution, MCCs and motor systems, field instrumentation, PLC/DCS/SCADA and communications to ensure safe, reliable power and control across the operation. Reporting to the Project Manager and supervising national E/I/C engineers, you will act as the primary counterpart to the EPC E/I/C leads, supporting engineering, construction and commissioning teams in resolving technical issues and achieving key energisation and commissioning milestones. You will ensure E/I/C designs and installations comply with relevant standards and KMSC requirements, and that control system architectures support safe operation, shutdown and fault response. A core part of the role is mentoring and developing national E/I/C engineers and technicians in a remote, multi-disciplinary project environment.
Key Responsibilities

- Review and approve EPC E/I/C design deliverables, including single line diagrams, load schedules, cable schedules, instrument lists, loop diagrams, control narratives and protection settings
- Ensure E/I/C designs incorporate safety in design principles (arc flash, isolation, earthing, interlocks, fail safe design, hazardous area compliance) and support safe plant operation and shutdown
- Oversee E/I/C QA/QC activities such as cable testing, IR and hi pot testing, instrument calibration, loop checks and logic testing, and manage punch lists to close out
- Participate in FATs and SATs for major electrical and control equipment including transformers, switchgear, MCCs, PLC/DCS and related systems
- Define and sequence E/I/C pre commissioning and commissioning activities (energisation, loop checks, functional testing) and coordinate these within the integrated commissioning plan
- Provide technical input to E/I/C tender evaluations, variations, claims and warranty issues, supporting robust procurement and issue resolution
- Collaborate closely with process, mechanical, civil and commissioning teams to ensure power and control systems align with process needs and plant layouts
- Maintain clear documentation of settings, logic changes, software versions and as built E/I/C data for handover to operations and maintenance
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Chartered / Professional Engineer status or eligibility with a recognised professional body highly regarded
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant E/I/C engineering experience, including several years in senior roles on mining or major industrial projects in developing countries, preferable Africa is highly regarded
- Significant experience with gold CIL plants and HFO/Diesel power plants, including design review and site construction support
- Strong knowledge of power generation and distribution systems (transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, VSDs, standby power, earthing and lightning protection) and process plant instrumentation and control systems (PLC/DCS/SCADA, shutdown systems, interlocks, communications networks)
- Demonstrated experience in E/I/C installation, testing, pre commissioning and commissioning support, including FAT/SAT, cable testing, IR/hi pot testing, instrument calibration, loop checks and logic testing
- Familiarity with applicable electrical and instrumentation codes and standards, hazardous area compliance, functional safety and protection coordination
- Proven ability to coordinate interfaces between EPC contractors, OEMs, system integrators, commissioning teams and owner representatives in a complex project environment
- Strong problem solving, communication and documentation skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing national E/I/C engineers and technicians
