About Kerkebet Mining Share Company (KMSC)

Kerkebet Mining Share Company is developing the Mier Gold Project, a fast-tracked greenfield mining development in Eritrea. The company is seeking a highly qualified engineering professional capable of leading civil, structural, and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) engineering operations within a complex mining and industrial environment.

Job Overview

The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer will provide leadership in all civil and structural engineering activities related to earthworks, reinforced concrete, foundations, roads, drainage systems, structural steel, water infrastructure, and TSF development.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will oversee EPC contractor activities, ensure compliance with engineering standards, manage technical reviews, and coordinate with environmental, construction, mining, HSE, and geotechnical teams.

This is a site-based engineering leadership role requiring strong field presence, technical expertise, stakeholder management, and project execution capability in a remote mining environment.

Key Job Responsibilities

Civil & Structural Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and supervise all civil and structural engineering functions across the mining project.
  • Provide technical oversight for TSF engineering, heavy earthworks, site infrastructure, roads, drainage, concrete works, and structural steel systems.
  • Mentor and develop national civil and structural engineering staff.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables align with project construction schedules and operational targets.

Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Engineering

  • Take technical responsibility for TSF design, safety, and construction oversight.
  • Review embankment stability, seepage systems, under-drainage, spillways, monitoring systems, decants, and water control structures.
  • Ensure dam safety standards and geotechnical requirements are achieved.
  • Participate in TSF risk assessments, HAZOP, HAZID studies, and dam safety reviews.

EPC Contractor Management

  • Review and approve contractor deliverables including:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Geotechnical reports
    • Structural calculations
    • Foundation and concrete designs
    • TSF technical documentation
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between EPC contractors, independent reviewers, and project stakeholders.
  • Support cost-effective and safe construction delivery.

Construction Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Monitor contractor QA/QC procedures for:
    • Compaction testing
    • Concrete quality testing
    • Survey verification
    • Instrumentation installation
    • NCR (Non-Conformance Report) management
  • Conduct field inspections and resolve engineering challenges during construction.

Safety, Environmental & Risk Management

  • Ensure all civil and structural systems comply with engineering safety standards.
  • Embed safe work practices, environmental compliance, and risk mitigation into engineering designs.
  • Coordinate with HSE and environmental teams regarding project impacts and compliance requirements.

Planning, Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain engineering deliverables register aligned with project milestones.
  • Coordinate with project controls teams to track engineering progress.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering reviews, schedules, and progress updates.
  • Support variation claims, tender reviews, and value engineering initiatives.

Education Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • Professional registration or Chartered Engineer status is highly preferred
  • Additional certifications in geotechnical engineering, dam safety, project management, TSF engineering, or mining infrastructure will be an advantage.
