Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive data privacy framework that safeguards personal and sensitive information handled by World Bank projects in Eritrea. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive data privacy policy aligned with international standards and Eritrean legislation.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for all new and existing projects, identifying risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on data protection best practices, ensuring a culture of privacy awareness.
• Monitor compliance with privacy policies, conduct audits, and prepare reports for senior management and regulators.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for data subjects, handling access requests, corrections, and complaints.
• Collaborate with IT and security teams to implement technical safeguards such as encryption, access controls, and data minimization.
• Stay updated on evolving privacy regulations and advise the organization on necessary policy adjustments.
• Coordinate with external partners and donors to ensure their data handling practices meet World Bank standards.

Required Skills

• In-depth knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and local Eritrean data protection laws.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or professional certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CISA is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles. Experience within multinational organizations, NGOs, or development agencies operating in Africa is preferred. Demonstrated success in leading privacy programs, conducting PIAs, and delivering training to diverse audiences is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided in line with World Bank compensation policies.
