Job Overview

The Curriculum Development Specialist will design, develop and evaluate curriculum materials for primary and secondary education programmes delivered by the British Council in Eritrea. Working closely with local educators, subject‑matter experts and policy makers, the specialist will ensure that learning resources are culturally relevant, pedagogically sound and aligned with international standards. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive needs analyses with schools, teachers and education authorities to identify curriculum gaps.
• Develop curriculum frameworks, lesson plans and assessment tools for English language and cross‑curricular subjects.
• Collaborate with local subject experts to ensure cultural relevance and alignment with Eritrean education policies.
• Integrate digital learning resources, multimedia content and interactive activities into curriculum packages.
• Pilot curriculum modules in selected schools, gather feedback, and refine materials based on evaluation results.
• Provide training workshops and support materials for teachers to effectively implement new curricula.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation, version control and quality assurance processes for all curriculum assets.
• Monitor and report on the impact of curriculum interventions, contributing data to the Council’s monitoring and evaluation framework.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of curriculum design principles, instructional design and assessment strategies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Arabic or Tigrinya is an advantage.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, teachers and NGOs.
• Proficiency in e‑learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate, Canva, Moodle) and basic graphic design.
• Analytical mindset with experience in data‑driven decision making and impact evaluation.
• Project management experience, including timeline development, budgeting and reporting.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum Design, Instructional Technology or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CELTA, TKT) is highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of proven experience in curriculum development, instructional design or educational consultancy, preferably within an international or multicultural context. Experience working in East Africa or with multilingual learner groups will be viewed favorably.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 1,800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes statutory benefits and performance‑based incentives.
