Job Overview

This role supports CARE’s mission to advance environmental sustainability through policy advocacy, community engagement, and program implementation. The position is based in Massawa, a coastal city with critical biodiversity and marine conservation needs. The successful candidate will collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders to ensure compliance with national and international environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement environmental compliance frameworks for CARE projects.
  • Conduct field assessments to monitor environmental impact and sustainability practices.
  • Provide technical guidance on climate adaptation strategies and waste management systems.
  • Coordinate with local communities to promote eco-friendly agricultural and fishing practices.
  • Prepare reports for donors and regulatory bodies on environmental program outcomes.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in environmental policy and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills for data collection and impact evaluation.
  • Excellent communication abilities to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping or environmental monitoring software.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Tigrinya.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental program management.
  • Previous work in Eritrea or the Horn of Africa region is advantageous.

Salary

120,000 – 180,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
