Job Overview
The Water Treatment Plant Engineer will be a key member of the Operations & Maintenance department, responsible for overseeing the design, operation, and optimization of water treatment processes at the Barentu plant. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control all stages of the water treatment process, including coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection.
- Conduct regular performance testing of water quality parameters and ensure compliance with Eritrean standards and WHO guidelines.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for critical equipment such as pumps, valves, clarifiers, and filtration units.
- Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies, propose process optimizations, and reduce chemical consumption.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, operational logs, and incident investigations for senior management.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to source spare parts and chemicals, ensuring cost‑effective purchasing.
- Lead training sessions for plant operators on safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and emergency response.
- Collaborate with environmental regulators and local authorities during audits and inspections.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies and chemical dosing strategies.
- Proficiency in SCADA systems, PLC programming, and data analytics tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and capacity to make data‑driven decisions.
- Effective communication skills for reporting to management and training staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with Eritrean environmental regulations and international best practices.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Water Professional (CWP) or equivalent are advantageous.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience operating or engineering water treatment facilities, preferably in a utility or industrial setting. Experience with large‑scale municipal plants is highly valued.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
