Job Overview

The Solar Power Plant Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in the Barentu region. The role involves routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical components, and coordination with the operations team to minimize downtime. The engineer will also support the implementation of performance monitoring systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This position plays a critical part in EEPCO’s strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and deliver clean power to the national grid. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of solar panels, inverters, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults, mechanical failures, and performance issues promptly.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs, service reports, and asset registers in compliance with EEPCO standards.
  • Collaborate with the monitoring team to analyze performance data and identify efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with procurement to source spare parts and manage inventory levels.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to field technicians and junior staff.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of plant upgrades, expansions, and commissioning activities.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, including module technology, inverter operation, and grid interconnection.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, use of multimeters, insulation testers, and thermal imaging cameras.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and remote monitoring platforms for solar plants.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single‑line diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance planning.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Arabic; knowledge of Tigrinya is a plus.
  • Commitment to safety culture and adherence to occupational health standards.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NABCEP PV Installation Professional or equivalent are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to industry standards.

Experience

Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of hands‑on experience maintaining utility‑scale solar power plants or large commercial PV installations. Experience with grid‑connected systems, inverter troubleshooting, and performance optimization is essential.

Salary
