Job Overview
Corteva Agriscience Eritrea is seeking a dynamic Agricultural Biotechnology Specialist to lead research and development projects in Barentu. This role is pivotal in creating bioengineered crop varieties that improve yield, resilience, and nutritional value for Eritrean farmers. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with international research institutions and implement field trials across the country’s diverse agricultural zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute biotechnology experiments for crop trait improvement
- Conduct genetic analysis and molecular breeding programs
- Collaborate with local farmers to assess field performance of bioengineered crops
- Prepare technical reports and publish findings in scientific journals
- Ensure compliance with national biosafety regulations
- Develop training programs for agricultural extension officers
Required Skills
- Expertise in plant biotechnology and genetic engineering
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques (PCR, CRISPR, etc.)
- Strong data analysis skills using R or Python
- Knowledge of Eritrean agricultural ecosystems
- Excellent communication and project management abilities
- Fluency in Tigrinya and English
Education
- Master’s Degree in Biotechnology, Agronomy, or Molecular Biology
- PhD preferred but not required
Experience
- 3-5 years in agricultural biotechnology research
- Previous experience in sub-Saharan Africa is advantageous
Salary
150,000 – 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
