Job Overview
The Port Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day activities at Assab Port, ensuring seamless coordination of vessel berthing, cargo handling, customs clearance, and stakeholder communication. Reporting to the Director of Port Operations, the incumbent will implement best‑in‑class operational procedures, monitor key performance indicators, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all port operational activities, including vessel scheduling, berth allocation, and cargo movement.
- Coordinate with customs, immigration, and security agencies to ensure compliance with national and international regulations.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve turnaround time and reduce operational costs.
- Monitor performance metrics such as vessel turnaround time, crane productivity, and cargo dwell time, and generate regular reports for senior management.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of supervisors, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
- Manage relationships with shipping lines, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers to enhance service quality.
- Implement digital tools for real‑time tracking, data analytics, and resource optimization.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards, conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
- Prepare annual operational budgets, forecast resource needs, and control expenditures within approved limits.
- Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Certified Port Professional (CPP) or Lean Six Sigma are advantageous.
Experience
At least five (5) years of progressive experience in port operations, terminal management, or large‑scale logistics environments is essential. Prior experience supervising cross‑functional teams and managing stakeholder relationships in an international context is highly valued.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
