Job Overview

The Environmental Compliance Officer will lead the implementation and monitoring of environmental policies, procedures, and permits for TotalEnergies’ operations in Eritrea. Reporting to the Regional Environmental Manager, the incumbent will conduct site inspections, audit environmental performance, and liaise with government agencies to ensure full compliance with Eritrean environmental legislation. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and enforce environmental compliance programs aligned with local laws and international standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and environmental audits to identify non‑conformities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit mandatory environmental reports, permits, and documentation to Eritrean regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor emissions, effluents, and waste streams, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and health‑safety teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning.
  • Lead incident investigations related to environmental spills or releases and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide training and awareness sessions for staff on environmental best practices and regulatory updates.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging environmental regulations and industry trends.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Eritrean environmental legislation and international standards such as ISO 14001.
  • Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools, data analysis software, and reporting platforms.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Analytical thinking with a problem‑solving mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional teams.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or Tigrinya is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or a Master’s degree are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in environmental compliance, preferably within the oil, gas, or renewable energy sectors. Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 150,000 to 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may be provided in accordance with TotalEnergies’ compensation policies.
