Job Overview

This role involves designing, optimizing, and managing marine renewable energy systems, including offshore wind farms, tidal generators, and wave energy converters. The position is based in Massawa, a strategic coastal hub for Eritrea’s emerging blue economy initiatives. Candidates will contribute to Ørsted’s mission of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 while supporting Eritrea’s energy diversification goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the installation of marine renewable energy systems, including offshore wind turbines and tidal energy converters.
• Conduct feasibility studies for new marine energy projects, assessing environmental and technical risks.
• Collaborate with local stakeholders, including the Eritrean Ministry of Energy and international partners, to secure project approvals.
• Monitor and optimize energy output from existing marine systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Lead research initiatives to integrate marine energy with Eritrea’s national grid and decentralized energy networks.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in marine engineering, offshore energy systems, or renewable energy project management.
• Proficiency in CAD software and marine energy simulation tools (e.g., OpenFAST, WEC-Sim).
• Strong understanding of Eritrean coastal ecosystems and marine regulations.
• Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills.
• Ability to work in remote coastal environments with limited infrastructure.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
• Master’s Degree preferred, with a focus on offshore energy systems or oceanographic engineering.

Experience

• 3-5 years of experience in marine renewable energy projects, including offshore wind or tidal energy systems.
• Previous experience in East Africa or coastal development projects is a significant advantage.

Salary

5,500 – 8,500 Eritrean Nakfa (SSP) per month, with performance-based bonuses and project incentives.
