Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead Microsoft’s privacy program in Eritrea, ensuring compliance with international data protection regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and local privacy laws. This role involves developing and implementing privacy policies, conducting impact assessments, and providing guidance to business units on data handling practices. The officer will act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities, manage data breach response, and drive a culture of privacy across the organization. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enforce privacy policies, standards, and procedures aligned with global and local regulations.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services, and initiatives.
• Serve as the point of contact for data protection authorities and manage regulatory inquiries.
• Lead incident response for data breaches, including investigation, notification, and remediation.
• Provide privacy training and awareness programs for employees, partners, and contractors.
• Collaborate with legal, security, and product teams to embed privacy by design into all solutions.
• Monitor legislative developments and advise senior leadership on emerging privacy risks.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and reporting for internal audits and external compliance reviews.

Required Skills

• Deep knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and regional privacy regulations.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with privacy management tools and data mapping techniques.
• Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages (Tigrinya or Arabic) is a plus.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree or professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CISM are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to privacy excellence.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, preferably within a multinational technology environment. Experience working with cross‑functional teams and managing regulatory relationships is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
