Job Overview

The Industrial Automation Engineer will design, implement and optimize automated systems for Siemens’ manufacturing clients in Eritrea. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed automation architecture, including hardware selection, software programming and network design.
  • Program and commission PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems and industrial IoT devices according to project specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments and cost‑benefit analyses for automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and process engineers to ensure seamless integration of automated equipment.
  • Provide on‑site support during installation, testing, commissioning and handover phases.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, such as functional specifications, wiring diagrams and user manuals.
  • Train client personnel on system operation, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Monitor system performance, diagnose faults and implement continuous improvement measures.
  • Ensure compliance with international safety standards, local regulations and Siemens quality guidelines.
  • Participate in after‑sales support and warranty activities to guarantee customer satisfaction.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages (TIA Portal, STEP 7, RSLogix, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA/HMI platforms such as WinCC, Ignition or Wonderware.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, control circuits and safety relays.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and process flow diagrams.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a systematic approach to troubleshooting.
  • Effective communication skills in English; Arabic or local languages are a plus.
  • Project management capabilities, including scheduling, budgeting and stakeholder coordination.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts, data analytics and cloud integration.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with emerging automation technologies.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Siemens Certified Automation Engineer, PLC Programming Certificate) will be given preference.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of three years of hands‑on experience in industrial automation, preferably within manufacturing, process or energy sectors. Experience in project delivery from concept to commissioning in an international environment is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from 250,000 to 350,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may be added in accordance with Siemens’ compensation policy.
