Job Overview

Barrick Gold Eritrea seeks a Mine Safety Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to national and international safety regulations in its Nakfa mining operations. This role is critical to maintaining a secure work environment, minimizing risks, and fostering a culture of safety across all mining activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments across mining sites.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols aligned with Eritrean and international mining standards.
  • Train employees on safety procedures, emergency response, and equipment handling.
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with environmental and occupational health laws.
  • Monitor and maintain safety documentation, including permits and certifications.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in mining safety regulations and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills for identifying hazards and mitigating risks.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to train and guide teams.
  • Familiarity with mining software (e.g., MineSight, AutoCAD) and safety management systems.
  • Ability to work in remote, high-pressure environments.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. A Master’s Degree or professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, CMIOSH) is a plus.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in mining safety compliance, preferably in open-pit or underground mining operations. Experience in Eritrea or neighboring regions is advantageous.

Salary

150,000 – 200,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and performance.
