Job Overview

The User Experience Researcher will join Google’s User Experience Research team in Asmara, focusing on understanding the behaviors, motivations, and pain points of Eritrean users across a range of products, including search, mobile applications, and emerging AI services. The role involves designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative studies, synthesizing insights, and collaborating with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate findings into actionable design recommendations. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and analyze user research studies, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and field observations.
  • Develop research protocols that reflect local language nuances, cultural norms, and accessibility considerations.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate research insights into product roadmaps and design iterations.
  • Produce clear, compelling reports, personas, journey maps, and presentations that communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Advise on ethical research practices, data privacy, and consent procedures in line with Eritrean regulations.
  • Stay current with emerging UX research tools, methods, and industry trends to continuously improve research quality.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in mixed‑method research, including qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Proficiency with research software such as Lookback, UserTesting, Dovetail, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to translate data into strategic recommendations.
  • Effective communication and storytelling abilities, both written and verbal, in English and preferably Tigrinya or Arabic.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to detail, empathy for users, and a passion for creating inclusive digital experiences.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Human‑Computer Interaction, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD) are a strong plus, especially when focused on user research, cognitive science, or design anthropology.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of professional experience conducting user research for digital products, preferably within a technology company or a research consultancy. Experience working on mobile‑first products in emerging markets, or familiarity with the Eritrean digital landscape, will be highly valued.

Salary
