Job Overview
The Geophysicist will lead geophysical data acquisition, processing, and interpretation for on‑shore oil and gas projects in the Barentu region. This role is critical to identifying hydrocarbon prospects, reducing exploration risk, and supporting the overall success of TotalEnergies’ operations in Eritrea. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, apply cutting‑edge seismic and geophysical methods, and deliver actionable insights that drive decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and supervise 2D/3D seismic surveys, gravity, magnetic, and electromagnetic data acquisition campaigns.
- Process raw geophysical data using industry‑standard software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, SeisSpace).
- Interpret seismic sections, generate structural and stratigraphic models, and identify potential hydrocarbon traps.
- Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teams to integrate geophysical findings into exploration workflows.
- Prepare technical reports, maps, and presentations for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during field operations.
- Mentor junior geophysicists and provide training on data acquisition and interpretation techniques.
- Stay updated on emerging geophysical technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve exploration efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in seismic processing and interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, SeisSpace).
- Strong understanding of geological concepts, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
- Experience with field data acquisition logistics and quality control.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills for presenting complex data to multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work in remote field environments and adapt to challenging conditions.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., SEG) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in on‑shore or offshore geophysical surveying, data processing, and interpretation. Prior experience in the African oil and gas sector is advantageous.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of 150,000 – 250,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
