Job Overview
The Automation Controls Engineer will design, implement, and maintain advanced control systems for manufacturing facilities in Eritrea. Reporting to the Lead Automation Manager, you will work closely with cross‑functional teams to integrate PLCs, SCADA platforms, and IoT devices that optimize production efficiency, safety, and energy consumption. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and program PLC logic, HMI screens, and SCADA dashboards for manufacturing lines.
- Conduct system integration, testing, and commissioning of automation equipment.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure seamless hardware‑software interaction.
- Perform troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for control system failures.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect industrial networks.
- Provide technical support and training to on‑site operators and maintenance staff.
- Document design specifications, test procedures, and as‑built configurations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process reliability and reduce downtime.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming languages (Siemens STEP 7, TIA Portal, or equivalent).
- Experience with SCADA systems such as WinCC, Ignition, or Wonderware.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
- Knowledge of electrical schematics, control panel design, and instrumentation.
- Analytical mindset with problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Arabic or local languages are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in Siemens automation platforms (e.g., Siemens Certified Programmer) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience designing, programming, and commissioning automation solutions in a manufacturing environment. Experience with large‑scale projects, preferably in emerging markets, will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 150,000 to SSP 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes statutory benefits and performance‑based incentives.
