Job Overview
The Senior Mining Engineer will lead mine planning, production scheduling, technical oversight, and mining performance monitoring for this large-scale open pit gold project.
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the role includes working closely with geology, processing, TSF, HSE, maintenance, survey, and project controls teams to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining activities.
The successful candidate will act as the main technical counterpart to the EPC Mining Contractor, ensuring that pre-stripping, waste movement, haul roads, ore stockpiles, ROM pad development, and TSF construction material supply are completed according to approved mine plans.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Mine Planning & Production Scheduling
- Develop and maintain short-term and medium-term mine plans aligned with approved long-term mining strategies.
- Prepare production schedules that support ore supply for process plant commissioning and operational ramp-up.
- Ensure ore exposure, stockpile management, grade optimization, and blending requirements meet plant targets.
Mining Operations Oversight
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for all open pit mining activities.
- Coordinate mining work fronts including:
- Pre-stripping operations
- Waste dump management
- Haul road construction
- ROM pad development
- TSF construction material supply
- Monitor contractor compliance with mining schedules and operational requirements.
Contractor Performance Management
- Evaluate EPC Mining Contractor performance against KPIs, budgets, and mine production targets.
- Lead technical reviews and discussions to resolve productivity challenges.
- Support mining-related variations, contractor claims, and progress verification.
Drill, Blast & Grade Control
- Support effective implementation of:
- Drill and blast activities
- Pit infrastructure planning
- Ore loss and dilution control
- Grade reconciliation systems
- Coordinate closely with geology and survey teams to improve operational accuracy.
Safety, Environmental & Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with:
- Eritrean mining legislation
- Site HSE standards
- Open pit safety procedures
- Participate in:
- Site inspections
- Safety audits
- Toolbox talks
- Incident investigations
- Monitor slope stability, environmental compliance, and geotechnical risks.
Operational Readiness & Transition
- Support transition of mine operations from project phase to steady-state production.
- Ensure mining systems and production readiness support successful CIL process plant commissioning.

Education Requirements
