Job Description

Kerkebet Mining Share Company (KMSC) is developing the world-class Mier Gold Project in Eritrea and is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to provide technical leadership for the design, commissioning and ramp‑up of the Mier Gold CIL process plant. This is a handson leadership role in a fasttracked development, suited to someone who can work effectively under pressure and brings strong experience in scheduledriven, complex mining and process plant projects.

About The Role

Based at Kerkebet Mine, you will lead process engineering activities through design and construction, ensuring the flowsheet, equipment selection and operating strategies align with DFS assumptions, metallurgical testwork outcomes and KMSC requirements. You will act as the Owner’s Commissioning Lead for pre‑commissioning, cold/wet commissioning, hot commissioning and performance testing, ensuring the plant is safely ramped up to design throughput and recovery. Working closely with the EPC Contractor’s process and commissioning teams, and with KMSC mining, TSF, operations readiness and HSE, you will coordinate all process‑related interfaces and drive an integrated approach to start‑up and ramp‑up. The role includes leading and mentoring national process engineers and operators to build a strong, technically capable operations team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for all process engineering activities, setting expectations for design quality, operability and metallurgical performance
  • Lead the Owner’s process engineering and commissioning team across design reviews, FATs, commissioning planning and ramp‑up execution
  • Act as key technical counterpart to the EPC Contractor’s Process and Commissioning Managers, reviewing and commenting on process deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, control philosophies, testwork interpretations)
  • Oversees the development and implementation of the Owner’s Commissioning Readiness Plan, including systemisation, pre‑commissioning checklists, commissioning procedures and performance test criteria by the EPC Contractor(s)
  • Ensure process design and commissioning procedures incorporate safety in design and safe operating principles, including cyanide management, interlocks, guarding, isolation and chemical handling
  • Monitor process‑related environmental controls during commissioning (cyanide, tailings water balance, emissions and discharges) and support compliance with regulatory and community commitments
  • Support technical evaluations of process equipment tenders and vendor proposals, focusing on capacity, efficiency, reliability and lifecycle cost
  • Provide process input to assessment of EPC claims and variations related to process design changes, performance guarantees and commissioning delays, and assist with performance guarantee testing
  • Work closely with mining, TSF, operations readiness, maintenance and project controls to ensure integrated planning for ore supply, water balance and ramp‑up strategies
  • Develop and deliver training for plant metallurgists, process engineers and operators in process fundamentals, operating strategies and start‑up procedures

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Metallurgical, Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineering (or closely related discipline)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Project Management or Business is an advantage
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ relevant experience in mineral processing, including several years in a senior process engineer, senior metallurgist or similar role in gold operations
  • Significant gold processing experience, preferably including CIL or CIP, elution and regeneration, with exposure to crushing, grinding and supporting utilities
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing commissioning and ramp‑up of new or expanded gold processing circuits, including development of commissioning procedures and participation in performance tests
  • Strong knowledge of gold processing flowsheets, metallurgical accounting, process control, sampling, reconciliation and optimisation of throughput, recovery, reagent consumption, energy and water use
  • Proven ability to design, execute and interpret metallurgical testwork and plant trials to support debottlenecking and improvement projects
  • Solid understanding of process safety, cyanide management, environmental requirements and relevant legislation for gold plant
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and report‑writing skills, with a track record of leading cross‑functional technical initiatives and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience working in remote, multicultural environments; English language fluency is essential

What We Offer

  • Global salary structure aligned with senior technical‑level expatriate roles, supported by full commercial insurance
  • On‑site accommodation and meals, camp‑based recreational facilities and transport between site and point of hire
  • Transport arrangements between site and point of hire
  • A competitive site roster aligned with expatriate rotation practices commonly used in the regional mining industry
  • A pivotal technical leadership role on a major greenfield gold project, with the opportunity to shape plant performance from design through to steady‑state operation while developing a capable national team

If you are a senior process engineering professional with strong gold processing and commissioning experience and a passion for building high‑performing teams in challenging environments, we invite you to apply by submitting your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience
