Job Overview

The Risk Management Analyst will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial and operational risks associated with the bank’s activities in Eritrea. Reporting to the Head of Risk Management, the analyst will collaborate with credit, compliance, and treasury teams to ensure that risk frameworks align with both local regulations and global standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for new and existing credit facilities, trade finance transactions, and investment products.
  • Develop and maintain risk models, dashboards, and reporting tools to monitor risk indicators on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Collaborate with the Credit Department to evaluate borrower creditworthiness and ensure adherence to risk appetite limits.
  • Prepare detailed risk analysis reports for senior management and regulatory bodies, highlighting potential exposures and mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of the bank’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, ensuring consistency across all business lines.
  • Monitor compliance with local banking regulations, Basel III requirements, and internal policies, recommending corrective actions when needed.
  • Participate in stress testing exercises and scenario analysis to gauge the impact of macro‑economic changes on the bank’s portfolio.
  • Support the development of risk‑aware culture through training sessions and workshops for staff across departments.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in statistical software and Excel.
  • In‑depth knowledge of banking risk categories, including credit, market, operational, and liquidity risk.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex risk concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying emerging risk trends.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Familiarity with local regulatory environment and international risk standards such as Basel III.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in risk management within a banking or financial services institution. Experience in emerging markets, particularly in East Africa, is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of developing risk assessment tools, preparing regulatory reports, and influencing risk‑aware decision making.

Salary
