Job Overview
The Data Privacy Officer will lead Microsoft’s privacy program in Eritrea, ensuring that all data processing activities comply with local regulations, Microsoft’s internal policies, and international standards such as GDPR and CCPA. The role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams—including legal, security, product, and engineering—to embed privacy by design into all solutions. The officer will also serve as the primary point of contact for data subjects, regulators, and internal stakeholders, handling privacy inquiries, conducting impact assessments, and overseeing incident response. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive data privacy framework aligned with Eritrean laws and Microsoft’s global standards.
- Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services, and initiatives.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Eritrean Data Protection Authority and other regulatory bodies.
- Provide privacy guidance and training to internal teams, ensuring privacy‑by‑design principles are embedded throughout the product lifecycle.
- Manage privacy incident response, including investigation, remediation, and reporting.
- Monitor and interpret changes in local and international privacy legislation, updating policies accordingly.
- Prepare and present regular privacy compliance reports to senior leadership.
- Facilitate data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely, accurate responses.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of Eritrean data protection laws and international privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
- Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with privacy management tools and technologies.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Tigrinya) is a plus.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Advanced certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to professional excellence in privacy management.
Experience
Applicants must have at least five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or legal advisory roles, preferably within the technology sector. Experience working in emerging markets or with multinational corporations adds significant value.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 150,000 to 250,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
