Job Overview
The Downhole Operations Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and optimizing drilling activities for TotalEnergies’ upstream projects in Eritrea. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all downhole operations meet technical specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines. Key Responsibilities
- Design and supervise the implementation of drilling programs, including well trajectory, casing design, and mud engineering.
- Coordinate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and HSE specialists to ensure integrated project execution.
- Monitor real‑time downhole data, analyze performance metrics, and recommend corrective actions to optimize drilling efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Eritrean regulatory requirements, TotalEnergies standards, and international best practices.
- Prepare technical reports, drilling logs, and post‑drill analyses for senior management and stakeholders.
- Lead risk assessments, contingency planning, and emergency response drills related to downhole operations.
- Mentor junior engineers and local technicians, fostering knowledge transfer and skill development.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of drilling engineering principles, well control, and downhole tools.
- Proficiency in drilling software such as WellPlan, Landmark, or equivalent.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.

- Ability to work in remote field environments and adapt to challenging conditions.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as IADC WellSharp, IWCF Well Control, or a Master’s degree in a relevant field are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in downhole operations within the oil and gas industry, preferably on onshore projects in Africa or similar environments. Demonstrated experience in managing complex drilling campaigns, leading multidisciplinary teams, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget is essential.
Salary
